The legislative body has adopted the “Foreign Agents Registration Act” in its third reading.
The draft law defines the concepts of “agent of a foreign principal” and “foreign power” and regulates a number of related matters. Specifically, it outlines the criteria and procedures for registering a subject as an agent of a foreign principal.
The law sets out the requirements for filing an application for such registration, the obligation to ensure the public availability of related documents, the procedure for submitting annual financial declarations by registered agents, and the conditions under which such registration may be annulled.
Furthermore, the act introduces mechanisms for monitoring in order to identify agents of foreign principals and to ensure compliance with legal requirements. It also provides for criminal liability in cases of evading registration or failing to meet the obligations stipulated by the law.
The Parliament passed the draft law with 86 votes in favour.
