Ministry of Regional Development will be established as an independent agency and will be headed by Grigol Liluashvili - Kobakhidze

The Ministry of Regional Development will be established as an independent agency. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

"Along with the growth of the economy, local government budgets have increased significantly, the total of which, excluding Tbilisi, has exceeded 4 billion. This, on the one hand, increases the ability of local governments to implement projects important to society. On the other hand, increases the challenges associated with the implementation of relevant tasks. Thus, effective planning and monitoring of regional development is of particular importance for the equal socio-economic development. One of the most important missions of the new ministry will be to ensure the maximum effectiveness of measures related to regional development.

The Government has already submitted to the Parliament the relevant draft law, which, in accordance with consultations with the parliamentary majority, the legislature will adopt during the session week of April 15 - 18.

Grigol Liluashvili will take up the position of Minister of Regional Development. As you know, he is leaving his position in October, his term of office is expiring, according to the law, he no longer had the right to hold the position again. Liluashvili left the position of Head of the State Security Service and upon the adoption of the law, he will take up the position of Minister of Regional Development. As you know, Grigol Liluashvili held the position of Chairman of the Committee on Regional Policy and Self-Government in the Parliament for many years. He has outstanding experience in working with regions.

Against the backdrop of the most difficult challenges, he has made a significant contribution to ensuring and further strengthening Georgia"s national security over the past 6 years. I would like to clarify that Irakli Karseladze will continue to work as the Minister of Infrastructure of Georgia", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
