Tbilisi City Hall has completed the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the area adjacent to Laguna Vere at Heroes` Square. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.
"This transportation hub is one of the capital`s major and busy sections, where traffic flows from various directions intersect and distribute.
The work was carried out on the road section from Heroes` Square to Zviad Gamsakhurdia Embankment, where, besides thorough rehabilitation of the road surface, complete modernization of infrastructure was implemented. Within the project framework, underground communications were rehabilitated.
Specifically, a drainage system was installed, worn-out gas supply pipes were replaced, and power transmission lines were placed in underground cable channels. Road work was conducted on an area of 32,000 square meters, where asphalt pavement was laid. Additionally, outdoor lighting with LED lamps was installed. The area was adapted for people with disabilities.
Two traffic light systems were installed in the area, which will work synchronously with the traffic light-regulated junction located on the embankment, improving traffic organization. Heroes` Square has been equipped with the latest generation of traffic lights based on artificial intelligence systems, which monitor traffic flows in real-time and automatically regulate traffic light phases, to facilitate optimal traffic flow.
Near the zoo area, a pedestrian crossing was also installed, which, during phase changes, will allow pedestrians to cross safely without disrupting vehicle movement. An extra vehicle lane was designated, which will facilitate the dynamic redistribution of traffic flows, and for maximum safety assurance, islands were installed and horizontal road markings were renewed completely.
The implemented changes will significantly enhance the capital`s road infrastructure, making travel both more comfortable and safer. Additionally, it`s important to note that the calibration of the new traffic lights is continuously performed in an automatic mode based on traffic flow, ensuring optimal operating conditions and efficient timing plans. This process will be completed within a few days. As part of the project, landscaping work has also been undertaken, with approximately 140 trees and plants planted. Consequently, this area is now quite beautiful and well-maintained", - said Kakha Kaladze.
