Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, convened a meeting with the PACE monitoring Committee members, the co-rapporteurs on Georgia, Edite Estrela and Claude Kern.
The primary focus of the meeting was on the political and social developments in the country. The discourse encompassed parliamentary activity, human rights protection, and the progress of Georgia’s EU membership application.
Papuashvili presented the outcomes of the October Parliamentary Elections and the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations. The Speaker elucidated the opposition’s tactical strategies, including the boycott of the Parliament as a political leverage following each election.
The parties discussed the ongoing protests that have persisted for several weeks. In light of the Monitoring Mission’s expressed interest, the meeting underscored the Government of Georgia’s unwavering commitment to implementing essential and timely measures to advance Georgia’s EU integration.
Within the shortest possible timeframe, the Government aims to meet all the necessary standards and commitments to ensure Georgia’s eventual accession to the EU.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to the Council of Europe, Tea Tsulukiani and the Delegation member, Givi Mikanadze, Chair of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee.
