Nona Gaprindashvili receives signed shirt from Lionel Messi

Georgia’s chess legend Nona Gaprindashvili received an autographed Argentina national team jersey from the world-renowned footballer Lionel Messi, in the latest exchange of presents between two sports figures.

The shirt was presented to Gaprindashvili by Gvaram Khandamishvili, Ambassador of Georgia to Argentina.

The gesture follows Messi’s 2021 presentation of a signed FC Barcelona jersey to Gaprindashvili for her 80th birthday. In return, the 5-time World Chess Champion sent the player a jewellery chess set made in 2021 and associated with Argentina’s victory in the Copa America.
