Levan Makhashvili partaking in the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Consumer Protection Week

Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the EU Integration Committee, participated in the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Consumer Protection Week.

In his welcome address, he underlined the years-old working process that was followed by the adoption of the Law on Consumers’ Rights by the Parliament in 2022. Makhashvili emphasized that by adopting the Law, the Parliament established the European standards in consumer rights. On behalf of the Parliament of Georgia, he expressed his commitment to closely cooperating with the respective agencies, business circles, and civic representatives for the effective implementation of the legislation in practice.

Makhashvili accentuated the significance of raising public awareness to allow the parties concerned to get timely informed and to establish respect-based behavior in the consumer sphere.

The 3rd International Consumer Protection Week is organized by the Competition and Consumer Agency, Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, National Bank, Insurance State Supervision Service, Georgian National Communications Commission, and the National Food Agency and aims at the improvement of consumer rights protection mechanisms.

The opening ceremony was attended by the representatives of the Georgian Parliament, state agencies, the public sector, regulatory commissions, academic circles, the business sector and the consumer rights sphere, as well as the local and international experts.
