Prime Minister of Georgia discusses sports reform and concept of the new Tbilisi stadium with sports community of the country

Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia together with Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi, Shalva Gogoladze, Minister of Sports and Irakli Karseladze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure discussed the development of sports infrastructure across the country and the concept of a new stadium in the capital at a meeting held at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium.

The multifunctional stadium, designed to accommodate 70 000 spectators and built to modern standards in the outskirts of Tbilisi, will enable Georgia to host top-tier football and rugby tournaments while attracting additional investments in these sports.

During the meeting, it was noted that the new stadium will have a multifunctional purpose, featuring concert and convention facilities, further enhancing the country"s tourism appeal.

The Prime Minister of Georgia emphasized the importance of incorporating the perspectives of the sports community into the stadium blueprints and design, highlighting that this meeting served precisely that purpose. According to the Prime Minister, the new stadium will be a flagship project for both Tbilisi and the country as a whole, particularly significant given Georgia"s bid to host the UEFA Champions League final.

The Government of Georgia has engaged a Dutch consulting company for advisory services on the construction of the stadium, with UEFA experts contributing to the concept development.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the importance of nationwide sports infrastructure development, with the government planning to build and enhance sports facilities in over 40 municipalities.
