US President Donald Trump’s statement regarding USAID’s attempt to influence the elections is the subject of political assessments in Tbilisi. Giorgi Vashadze, one of the leaders of the “Unity - National Movement” coalition, claims that the elections were influenced solely by a group linked to Russia.

According to him, the only problem with USAID in relation to Georgia is that it financed a “façade” reform of the judiciary.

“The only influence was exerted by a group linked to Russia. In the case of Georgia, the #1 problem is that the facade reform of the clan court was financed by USAID, and there is also a problem that the government, which cooperates with China and wants to transfer the Anaklia port to China, helped create facade reforms - this is a mistake. For example, when I worked in the House of Justice, USAID helped me. This was very right, because it is one of the most successful reforms in the world”, - said Giorgi Vashadze.
