The Batumi City Court ordered pre-trial detention for Mzia Amaghlobeli, the founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti.
The decision was made by Judge Nino Irmashvili. Her decision was followed by noise and shouts in the hall. “Freedom to Mzia” - those present at the hearing chanted.
The prosecution filed a motion for pre-trial detention at the trial, while the defence requested a bail of GEL 100 000. The defendant also took the opportunity to speak at the trial and stated that she would not evade responsibility.
Amaghlobeli is charged under Article 353 Prima of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which penalizes the assault of a police officer with a sentence ranging from four to seven years in prison.
