Everyone’s rights in the country are protected regardless of their religion, orientation - Kaladze

The Mayor of Tbilisi said the domestic legislation on family values and protection of minors was serving “solely the aim of prohibiting LGBT propaganda” in the country and was “not aimed at restricting the rights” of sexual minorities.

His comment came after a joint statement by the French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who last week called on the Georgian authorities to withdraw the recently adopted legislation and said it “runs counter to European values and principles”.

“A lot of things will change. Donald Trump, who shares conservative values, won the presidential elections in the US. Let us wait.

A lot of things will change in different directions. As for the aforementioned law, we oppose LGBT propaganda in the country, which is categorically unacceptable both among adults and children.

Everyone’s rights in the country are protected regardless of their religion or even sexual orientation…

The opposition will not be able to have a specific position over this legislation because they know that the law in question has very strong support in public. Accordingly, they didn’t dare to make statements against the law during the elections, and they do not dare to do so now”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
