The Special Investigation Service [SIS] rejected the information spread by Lizi Tirkia, claiming that she had been contacted by the agency and accused of assaulting 5 police officers, as false.
“We clarify that within the framework of an ongoing investigation into the possible excessive use of force by law enforcement officers against participants of the protest rally on Monday and Tuesday, on Chavchavadze and Melikishvili Avenues, there was indeed communication between an investigator and Lizi Tirkia. Based on the received notification, she was offered to come for an interview regarding the circumstances of her detention and the injuries she sustained.
“Following false information spread in the media, an employee of the General Inspection of the SIS contacted Lizi Tirkia, who, during the phone conversation, denied the text she had previously stated and explained that she posted a message on social media for self-protection purposes. She further clarified that after appearing before the investigating body, she learned the real reason for her summons.
Tirkia had been interviewed, her rights had been explained to her, and she had been offered to undergo a medical examination.
We urge the media to address the SIS with the appropriate questions before spreading unverified and false information”, - reads the statement.
