Prosecutor’s Office charged 1 person with assaulting police officers at a protest rally

The Prosecutor’s Office charged 1 individual with assaulting police officers at a protest rally of the domestic opposition in Tbilisi held on Tuesday, releasing a video showing an attack.

“An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that in the morning of November 19, during a protest rally on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi, the accused [individual] inflicted various injuries on three police officers with a wooden stick. The law enforcement officers arrested the accused on November 21. He was charged under Article 353 of the Georgian Criminal Code [Attacking a police officer, employee of the Special Penitentiary Service or other representative of authority or a public institution]”, - reads the statement.

Under the Criminal Code of Georgia, attacking a police officer in connection with their official activities provides for imprisonment for a term of 4 to 7 years.

“We will apply to the court within the time limit established by law with a motion to impose a preventive measure on the accused”, - adds the agency.
