According to the US State Department’s report, Georgia retains the highest rating in terms of combating Human Trafficking and maintains its place in Tier 1.

On June 24, 2024, the US Department of state published its annual report, according to which Georgia retains the highest level in the fight against human trafficking and for the 9th year maintains its place in tier 1. The report of the US Department of state notes that the government has strengthened law enforcement measures in the direction of the fight against human trafficking and positively evaluates the punishments defined for trafficking in the Criminal Code.

The report highlights the existence of the specialized anti-trafficking units operating in the country, including the Anti-Trafficking and Illegal Migration Division of the Central Criminal Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its 6 mobile groups, as well as a group of specialists operating in the Ajara region - the so-called TASK FORCE, which is staffed by specialized investigators and prosecutors.

According to the document, the above-mentioned units carry out inspections of places within the risk group of trafficking (including nightclubs, bars, casinos, etc.) in order to proactively detect the facts of trafficking.

The report also overviews the joint inspections conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Labor Inspection. According to the document, during the reporting period, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs held various courses for police officers on trafficking issues. Moreover, it is further indicated that with the financial and technical support of international organizations, investigators, prosecutors, and labor inspectors were trained on the issues of combating the crime of trafficking.

The report is traditionally accompanied by recommendations prepared by the US Department of state, aimed at strengthening the fight against human trafficking in different directions.
