Draft Law on Grants approved for the first reading by the Budget and Finance Committee

The Budget and Finance Committee discussed the Draft Law on Grants. According to the Parliamentary Secretary of the Government, Vakhtang Bachiashvili, the Legal Entity of Public Law, determined by the Government for the assignment of support to public organizations, shall be empowered to issue grants for the hereof purpose.

At that, a new norm has been introduced to the Law, which envisages that the Head of the aforementioned LEPL, in view of supporting public organizations, shall be entitled to issue the normative and individual administrative-legal acts to ensure uninterrupted activity.

“The Legal Entity of Public Law, determined by the Government, holding the competence of supporting public organizations, shall also be capable of issuing the grants”, - the reporter elucidated.

According to Paata Kvizhinadze, the Chair of the Committee, it is imperative to ensure open and transparent financing in line with the national interests.

“The Law on Transparency is paramount to us, as it outlines the funding directions. It is equally important for us to actively participate in this process by issuing transparent tenders or competitions to secure funding for crucial projects that benefit the country”, - he stated.

The Draft, submitted for expedited consideration, was approved by the Committee.
