The Political Council of the Georgian Dream releases a statement regarding the information about United Kingdom`s plans to impose sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili.

"As is known, 14 MPs submitted a motion to the British House of Commons to sanction Bidzina Ivanishvili. This initiative follows Great Britain`s sanctions against Vakhtang Gomelauri and other high-ranking officials from Georgia`s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Georgian society is aware that historically, Great Britain has been a strong, sovereign, and progressive state, a champion of the rule of law and fundamental human rights.

It is in England that basic procedural rights emerged, including the right to a fair trial, which mandates a proper hearing and reliable evidence before imposing sanctions on an individual. Shockingly, principles understood in England as far back as the 13th and 17th centuries have been entirely forgotten and trampled by the British government in the 21st century.

We all remember the 5 unfair and shameful anti-Georgian resolutions through which the European Parliament demanded the punishment of Bidzina Ivanishvili and the release of criminals. We all remember unfair and shameful Ukrainian sanctions against Georgian politicians, public servants, their family members, which were not backed by any facts or evidence. We all remember the anti-Georgian decisions by Lithuania and Estonia regarding sanctions against Georgian politicians and high-ranking officials, which also lacked any facts or evidence. It is extremely disturbing that a country like the Great Britain has today been turned into just another plaything by the Deep State - the Global War Party - just like Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, and the European Parliament.

The leader who liberated Georgia from authoritarian rule, carried out the democratic transition in the country, put an end to the systematic practice of murder and torture, business racketeering, media takeover and electoral fraud, ensured 12 years of uninterrupted peace in the country and tripled the economy.

If sanctions are imposed, the UK`s authority as a state based on the rule of law and fundamental human rights will finally be a thing of the past. However, given that the deep state, or the Global War Party, has condemned many states to physical destruction, the UK`s state and moral destruction and decline is a far less tragic event", - reads the statement.
