We have a very ambitious task to increase country’s budget to over GEL 50 billion by 2028 - Irakli Kobakhidze

The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted a “very ambitious” task of the Georgian Dream to increase the state budget to over GEL 50 billion by 2028, which he said “will give us the opportunity to implement many more projects and expand the social security package”.

In the speech at the presentation of the election program of the ruling party, Irakli Kobakhidze noted that the Georgian Dream Government had managed to increase the country’s budget almost to GEL 28 billion since 2012, when the budget was GEL 8.5 billion.

“In terms of unemployment, we had the worst situation in 2012. Unemployment in the country amounted to 26.7%. We have succeeded and, as of today, we have halved the unemployment rate since 2012.

We have a very ambitious and at the same time realistic task of reducing unemployment to 4%, this is our task.

As for the employment rate, we had similar progress in this regard as well. 1,217,000 people were employed in 2021 and over the last 2.5 years, the employment rate in the country increased by 170,000. 170,000 new jobs were created.

If this pace is maintained, which will surely be the case, we can confidently pledge that at least 200,000 jobs will be added to our country by 2028”, - explained Irakli Kobakhidze.
