As a result of the natural disaster in Kakheti, the Alaverdi monastery complex has lost its dome’s tin cover, the windows of the western side of the temple and the dome have been broken. Such a statement war released by the Cultural Heritage Agency.
“Representatives of the National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia are present in the territory of the Alaverdi monastery complex, and they are aware of the created situation.
As a result of the natural disaster, the tin cover of the dome was damaged, the roof of the lorfin on the southern slope of the temple was damaged, the windows of the western side of the temple and the dome were broken, the tin roof of the bell tower and the tile roof of the episcopal palace were damaged, the balcony of the palace was collapsed, a cross fell from the dome of the temple and the infrastructure of the surrounding area was damaged.
Currently, the severity of the damage is being determined, and in the coming days, together with the local diocese and its ruler Abba Alaverdi Metropolitan David, measures will be planned to eliminate the damage to the temple”, - reads the statement of the agency.
