British wine professionals visited Georgia with the support of the National Wine Agency

With the support of the National Wine Agency and the organization of the agency’s contracted company, “Swirl Wine Group”, a delegation of 12 wine professionals visited Georgia.

The delegation comprised of British importers, retailers, baristas, and sommeliers, visited several Georgian wine producing companies in Kakheti. During the visit, they had the opportunity to taste various styles of Georgian wine. Additionally, a dedicated tasting event was held in Tbilisi, where the British guests were introduced to the wines of 20 different companies.

“I was fascinated by the history of Georgian wine; Therefore, I had an idea about the wine made in Qvevri according to the traditional Georgian way. There are truly wonderful wines in Georgia, there are the best wine producers who still preserve the original, authentic Georgian character of the wine. Now, back home, I can introduce my people to Georgian wine, which I discovered here”, - said Mike Boyne.

Great Britain is considered to be one of the largest importers and consumers of wine in Europe. Since 2014, it has been recognized as a potentially significant market for the export of Georgian wine.

To establish a strong presence in the UK market, the National Wine Agency has engaged in a strategic partnership with “Swirl Wine Group LTD”, led by Wine Master Sarah Abbott, since 2015. Between January and May this year, a total of 142,000 liters of wine were successfully exported to Britain, representing an impressive 12% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
