The Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, met the Mission Director of the International Republican Institute (IRI), Sean Dunne, and the IRI Resident Program Director in Georgia, John DiPirro.
The key topic of the meeting was the October 26 Parliamentary Elections. The parties spoke about the preparatory process for the Parliamentary Elections and the main activities being implemented for conducting the elections at high professional level.
Giorgi Kalandarishvili provided the IRI representatives with detailed information pertaining to the efforts made for large-scale introduction of electronic technologies in electoral process as well as the crucial projects that are being successfully organized by the Election Administration (EA) of Georgia. Additionally, he spoke about the activities implemented for certification of the penitentiary members of precinct election commissions, extensive voter information campaign and voter education.
The parties explored their cooperation as well as relevant topics regarding coordination and exchange of information as part of the observer mission. Giorgi Kalandarishvili highlighted that the EA is ready for close cooperation with the observer mission. It is noteworthy that the long-term observer mission of the IRI will observer the October 26 Parliamentary Elections.
