Many issues, including funding, projects and grants of the non-governmental organizations had become even more non-transparent. Such a statement made today Mamuka Mdinaradze, Chairman of the Georgian Dream faction, in his comments over the domestic bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”.

“We did not adopt any of the two bills on transparency presented in 2023, and we have been communicating with NGOs donor organizations since then.

There was a stipulation from our side that we would not get back to this law, while the representatives of the opposition, NGO sector and donors claimed that everything was already transparent.

There were also plenty of meetings where it was said that things that were non-transparent would no longer be so. We did not receive a positive response to this pledge.

In the end, many issues, funding, projects, grants became even more non-transparent, and finally we came to the point where the Government must take appropriate measures to eliminate the circulation of this black money, so that, just like in the United States, in other countries we also must regulate this issue.

There is a lot of speculation regarding the fact that this law does not apply to Russia. The law applies universally to organizations receiving funding from any foreign source, including Russia. I want to emphasize that we are good at identifying enemies and lovers. It is important to recognize the progress made in relations with Europe during the tenure of the Georgian Dream party”, - said Mamuka Mdinaradze.

The Committee on Legal Issues of the Georgian Parliament started deliberating on the bill on transparency submitted by the parliamentary majority, aiming to shed light on external influences on domestic affairs and to enhance transparency in political and civil society activities.
