The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - Giorgi Butkhuzi hosted the US Ambassador to Georgia - Robin Dunnigan at the Forensic-Criminalistics Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs [MIA].

Within the framework of the event, with the support of the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs [INL], the Ambassador handed over the Infrared Spectrometer to the Forensic-Criminalistics Department of the MIA.

The parties discussed close and fruitful relations between Georgia and the US, expressed their willingnes to further strengthen cooperation in the field of fight against crime.

The Deputy Minister thanked the US Ambassador and the representatives of the INL for their assistance and noted that the given device will significantly improve the capabilities of the Forensic-Criminalistics Department.

Robin Dunnigan had the opportunity to see the Infrared Spectrometer in the process of operation. Additionally, she got acquainted with the specifics of the work of the laboratories of the Forensic-Criminalistics Department. Donated Infrared Spectrometer examines the layers of various explosive, narcotic and fibrous substances in a short matter of time, which will contribute to the fast and effective investigation of crime.

The Embassy of the US and the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs have been cooperating with the MIA of Georgia for many years in the areas of traffic safety, cybercrime, domestic violence, trafficking, tactical training, juvenile crime prevention and other important areas.
