The State Security Service of Georgia [SSSG] responds to the media reports [investigation of The Insider, CBS and Spiegel] about alleged premeditated health damage of US diplomats in different countries, including Georgia, following the foreign investigations of anomaly incidents.

In the statement, the SSSG claimed despite a “comprehensive explanation” on the matter from its US partners, there were “still some politically motivated individuals and media outlets” in Georgia who were “attempting to use this issue for speculations and attempts to discredit” the Service.

“The White House, the Pentagon and the State Department last week backed a March 2023 report by the National Intelligence Council that concluded it was very unlikely adverse symptoms known as the Havana Syndrome were caused by enemy operatives, despite a new investigation that suggested a Russian intelligence unit may be responsible.

Competent US agencies such as the Central Intelligence Agency, the State Department have questioned the actuality of results of the proposed journalistic investigation and have not confirmed the existence of the facts published by journalists not only in Georgia in 2021, but in different years in different countries of the world, including Germany, Austria , in Poland, Cuba, etc.

The SSSG considered the response of the US state agencies to be completely comprehensive. Thus, the interest of the Georgian public was fully satisfied. It is not necessary to prove the groundlessness of the reports again. The security in the country is being maintained at the maximum level in the face of increasing challenges in the region”, - reads the statement of the SSSG.
