The Bureau convened to discuss the agenda of the upcoming plenary session and deliberated on a new legislative proposal concerning constitutional changes.

As stated by the Speaker of the Parliament, the new legislative proposal pertains to the draft Georgian Constitutional Law on Amendments to the Constitution of Georgia and the draft Constitutional Law on Family Values and Protection of Minors included in this package.

Shalva Papuashvili further announced that the proposal will be forwarded to Rules and Procedural Issues Committee for verification of signatures’ authenticity and to draft a resolution for establishment of a public review commission.

“I urge every faction and political group to nominate one representative to serve on the Universal Public Review Commission. Furthermore, I appeal to the opposition to take advantage of this opportunity and actively participate in the discussion, given the significance of this matter to society. The commission’s objective is to coordinate public meetings, including those in regional areas, and to acquaint the public with the proposed draft law. Additionally, the commission will solicit their opinions on whether specific issues should be regulated by constitutional law and how they should be regulated”, - said the Speaker.

According to the Rules of Procedure, the Rules and Procedural Issues Committee has one week to verify the signatures. Concurrently, the committee will draft a resolution, which the Parliament will deliberate on during the next session week. This resolution will establish a Universal Public Review Commission. The commission will engage in meetings with the public over the course of a month and subsequently report the outcomes of these discussions to the parliament. Following this, deliberations on the constitutional bill will commence in the highest legislative body.
