An employee of the Military Police Department of the Defense Forces of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, I.M. was arrested by the Special Investigation Service on the fact of threats.

The investigation established that on February 23, 2024, after losing money in gambling, the accused returned home in the evening hours, had a disagreement with his wife and threatened to kill her. After this, the accused continued to threaten his wife. In March of this year, during a conflict over household issues, he threatened his wife with physical punishment both directly and through a short text message. In all cases, the victim had a reasonable fear of carrying out the threat.

Based on the female victim’s report, the Special Investigation Service promptly launched the investigation and, in cooperation with the Prosecutor"s Office, obtained evidence incriminating the law enforcement officer"s crime, after which based on the court"s decision he was arrested.

The military police officer will be charged within 48 hours.

The crime shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of up to three years.

The Special Investigation Service continues to investigate the case.
