The Special Investigation Service with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia conducts informational meetings with schoolchildren throughout Georgia to raise the awareness of juveniles on protecting their private lives.
The cycle of meetings began in December 2023 and continues to this day.
Meetings were held in 70 schools in total across the country. The information campaign covered 22 schools in Tbilisi, 9 schools in Shida Kartli and Kvemo Kartli, 11 schools in Kakheti, 11 schools in Imereti, 11 schools in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, and 6 schools in Samegrelo region.
The purpose of the information campaign is to eliminate the facts of the disclosure of information about the personal life of schoolchildren, to protect and warn them from crime, as recently there have been frequent facts of blackmail and coercion of minors with personal photos and videos through social networks, share the materials into closed groups and different individuals.
These crimes are punishable by the Criminal Code of Georgia and are investigated by the Special Investigation Service.
Within the framework of the meetings, investigators provided schoolchildren, their parents, and teachers with detailed information about the massively spread crimes of disclosure of secrets of the personal life, what the right to privacy, how and in what form privacy is violated, who should the schoolchildren address to in case of blackmail, cyberbullying and disclosure of information of their private lives through the internet.
Informational meetings in schools were led by investigators of the Special Investigation Service, as well as specially trained Resource Officers, who discussed issues of bullying and cyberbullying.
The Special Investigation Service actively continues to prevent disclosure of personal life and raise awareness of juveniles and cooperates with the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia in this direction.
