At least 12 arrests at farmers’ protests in Warsaw

At least 12 people were arrested in the Polish capital Warsaw as some protesting farmers tried to break through barriers in front of the parliament building and enter the grounds, police said.

Officers prevented this, the police said on X, formerly Twitter. Several police officers were injured. Broadcaster TVN24 showed footage with demonstrators throwing paving stones and fireworks at the police. The officers responded with tear gas and water canons. Officers sealed off the parliament building and asked the crowd to disperse.

In the morning, several thousand farmers marched to the front of the government building. This time they were joined not only by hunters and beekeepers, but also by supporters of the right-wing political spectrum.

Demonstrators used horns, sirens and fireworks to signal that they do not agree with the agricultural policy.
