Working meeting regarding protection of voters’ personal data is held at CEC

A working meeting focused on personal data protection during electronic elections was organized at the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia. During the meeting, the CEC Chairperson, Giorgi Kalandarishvili provided an overview of the Election Administration’s (EA) efforts and future plans for modernizing elections and introducing electronic technologies to the head persons from the Personal Data Protection Service. As the CEC Chairperson highlighted, ensuring the protection of personal data and security of voters on election day is one of the key areas in the work of EA.

“At today’s meeting, we have elaborated on each crucial aspect of personal data protection, especially in the context of integrating technologies. Strengthening cooperation with the Personal Data Protection Service is of utmost importance for us in order to jointly promote the protection of personal data in compliance with international standards”, - said Giorgi Kalandarishvili.

“We have discussed how the data should be processed to observe the security measures. We have agreed on maintaining our future cooperation within which the Service will develop the guideline recommendation on data security”, - added the Head of the Personal Data Protection Service, Lela Janashvili.

The parties agreed on arranging a meeting for the Services’ staff members, with the goal of informing them about the introduction of electronic technologies in the electoral process. The CEC will hold it for them and deliver detailed information pertaining to electoral technologies as well as procedures.
