After the disturbing statement of the President that Georgia didn’t deserve the candidate status, it would be wrong for me to delegate certain powers to her - Garibashvili

After the disturbing statement of the President that Georgia didn’t deserve the candidate status, it would be wrong for me to delegate certain powers to her. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

“I would like to day a few words on the decision of Mrs. President. As it known, unfortunately, she did not take into account the refusal sent by the Government and demonstratively violated the Constitution.

The Constitution clarifies that foreign policy is carried out by the Government of Georgia, and if the President is granted authority by the Government, only in this case can she fulfill this authority.

I sent a formal refusal to visit a month ago. You remember very well that a few months ago, Mrs. President came out publicly and said that the Georgian government does not fulfill its obligations, which are set, 12 recommendations, and also, she said the most disturbing thing, that Georgia didn’t deserve the candidate status last year.

After that, naturally, we don’t need any more evidence that credibility is lost, and it would certainly be wrong for me to delegate certain powers to her after hearing this statement.

Neither the President of Georgia, nor our critics, the opposition, have done anything in the last ten years on the path of European integration.

Everything is exclusively the merit of the Georgian Dream - free trade, visa-free regime and European perspective.

Now I believe that our European friends will have more than enough arguments to give the country a deserved status”, - said Irakli Garibashvili.
