Government of Georgia starts state program to boost non-standard apple sales

The Government of Georgia launches a state program to boost the sales of non-standard apple crops.

According to the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, preliminary estimates indicate that the yield of non-standard apples this year will surpass 50,000 tons. As the body said, the mentioned programme supporting sale of “non-standard” apples would be maintained from previous years to ensure farmers sold their produce.

“Under the state program, the Rural Development Agency will subsidise 10 Tetri per kilogram of non-standard apples.

This subsidy will be extended to fruit processing companies that buy at least 1 kilogram of non-standard apples from farmers at no less than 24 Tetri per kilogram by December 15, 2023”, - says the agency.

Fruit processing enterprises interested in joining the programme will be required to join its digital registry.
