Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Kakha Kakabadze got acquainted with the progress of the construction of the “Business Yard” in the village of Martkophi, Gardabani Municipality.
In order to introduce a sustainable system of timber production and forestry, business yards are being actively arranged throughout the country. As of today, about 40 business yards have been arranged, and 20 new business yards will be added by the end of the year. At this stage, works are being carried out in Kvareli, Akhmeta, Tkibuli, Sachkhere, Tsageri, and Martvili.
“According to the Forestry Code, the National Forestry Agency has assumed the responsibility to completely replace the practice of social logging in 2026 and provide the population with firewood obtained as a result of sustainable forest use. Therefore, the years 2023-2024 are crucial for the agency and represent a preparatory stage for the system assembly, for which it is necessary to mobilize both technical and material resources”, - said Kakha Kakabadze.
For the piloting of the system, the National Forestry Agency will purchase the necessary equipment, for which approximately 10 million GEL funding has been allocated, of which 5 million GEL has been allocated by the state, and the rest is the financial support of the donor.
