Prime Minister of Georgia meets Prime Minister of Croatia in Zagreb

After the official welcome ceremony at the Government Palace, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, one-on-one at first and then in an extended format.

At the meeting with Andrej Plenković, Irakli Garibashvili discussed at length the implementation of the European Commission’s 12 recommendations by Georgia, and pointed out that the country is anticipating the well-deserved EU candidate status at the end of this year. In addition, the Prime Minister underlined that sharing Croatia’s experience in acceding to the EU is of special importance to Georgia.

The Prime Minister thanked his counterpart for Croatia’s support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty along with European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

At the meeting, historical, cultural, and territorial similarities between Georgia and Croatia were emphasized, which make the friendship and cooperation between the two countries even closer and more productive.

The conversation touched on the partnership between Georgia and the Republic of Croatia and the strengthening of the agenda of their cooperation across a variety of directions.

Focus was also made on the importance of opening Georgia’s Embassy in Croatia, which is an especially noteworthy event in the 30-year-long diplomatic relations between the two countries.

At the meeting, issues pertaining to the sectoral cooperation between the two countries were discussed. Georgia expressed readiness further to encourage its sectoral institutions and deepen cooperation in the areas of economy, tourism, defense, and justice. It was also noted that Georgia welcomes the exchange of business strategies between the two countries, which will bolster economic cooperation and promote the entry of Croatian investments in Georgia.
