The modernization project of 12 metro stations in Tbilisi will be implemented in 2023-2029. Such a statement made today the Mayor of capital.
“The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, with which we are cooperating closely, is actively involved in the metro Modernization Project. For this purpose, a loan of EUR 50.6 million and a grant of EUR 5 million have already been allocated.
The international consulting company EGIS has already prepared a pre-feasibility study for the metro stations. In addition, with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a Consultant has been selected to assist Tbilisi Transport Company in procuring various services.
Three escalators of the third exit of “Station Square” will be replaced as part of the metro stations rehabilitation. The electric motors of 36 escalators will be modernized to save electricity. Control panels of escalators and electromechanical devices will be replaced.
The passenger information system will be updated. The physical access to station entrances will be improved, and special inclined elevators will be installed at several metro stations. At the “Station Square” junction, two elevators will be installed to improve access between the first and the second lines.
The central drainage pumping stations will be rehabilitated, and the fire protection systems, special and administrative telephone networks, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) of centralized and interlocking alarms located in the stations and automatic control stations will be replaced.
The ventilation system outside the stations will be rehabilitated, with a total of 18 fans and control systems. The united metro workshops will be completely re-equipped and the premises will be renovated.
Metro’s Training Center will be re-equipped. Technical facilities and equipment will be updated. As a result of the above-mentioned works, the metro operation will be significantly improved what will have a significant impact on the realization of the transport policy of Tbilisi”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
