Tbilisi Pride publishes a statement regarding the festival planned for tomorrow, July 8.
“Tomorrow marks the Pride Festival, an indoor event that we have been organizing for the third consecutive year.
Radical groups are intentionally misleading the public about the Pride Festival, spreading false information regarding a so-called “gay parade” taking place in the streets of Tbilisi. Their goal is to incite hatred within a particular segment of society.
Once again, we would like to emphasize that there is no street march involved, and the festival itself is held in a private, enclosed area exclusively for registered guests. Its purpose is primarily educational, cultural, and social in nature.
For months, our team has engaged in negotiations with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the support of international partners. We have obtained robust assurances that the festival will be adequately protected.
The festival will welcome members of the queer community, as well as our supporters, diplomatic corps, and international partners. Due to security concerns, only adult visitors will be granted access to the premises.
We urge all citizens to denounce the violent threats posed by radical groups against the Pride Festival. Let us refrain from being both victims and spreaders of misinformation. Instead, let us stand in support of democracy, human rights, and love”, - reads the statement.
