According to the decree of the President of Ukraine, sanctions were imposed on Airzena - Georgian Airways, which restored direct flights with Russia. Personal sanctions were also imposed on the founder of the airline, Tamaz Gayashvili.

Oleksandr Shulha, the Ukrainian Charge D’affaires in Georgia, was summoned to the Georgian Foreign Ministry after this decision of Volodymyr Zelensky. The Georgian side deemed the move as “baseless”, and requested clarification.

In their response, Georgian authorities have said the flights are only permitted to be operated by Russian airlines not on the list of international sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
