Executive Government meeting gets held and led by Irakli Garibashvili

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia held and led the Executive Government Meeting today.

The Cabinet of Ministers considered 12 agenda items.

Topics discussed included amendments to Draft Laws of Georgia on Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacies, and on Public Procurement.

In line with the proposed amendments, the state will be able to purchase innovative pharmaceuticals with special terms and conditions from manufacturers or trading license holders through direct negotiations.

With an aim of increasing the accessibility of the general public to innovative medication, pharmaceuticals will be purchased with special terms and conditions by applying the mechanism of Managed Entry Agreement (MEA), which implies the procurement of medication at special (concessional) prices.

It was noted at the Executive Government Meeting that by passing the proposed Draft Laws to amend the existing legal framework, positive impact will be made on consumers of innovative and original pharmaceuticals, thereby increasing access to them and improving the effective spending of public funds. Also, it was highlighted that it will become possible to finance the medical treatment of more patients or the number of funded drugs will increase for the course of medical treatment.
