Georgia is preparing to celebrate Independence Day on Friday, May 26, with a wide range of cultural, educational and entertainment activities both in Tbilisi and regions of the country. Among the principal occasions marking the date will be the annual ceremony involving new recruits of the Georgian Defence Forces taking oath on the capital’s Freedom Square. The ceremony involving the new troops will start at 11:00.
Organisers of the activities said events in Tbilisi"s Rustaveli Avenue - adjacent to the Square - would be designed “for people of all ages and tastes”. Educational and entertainment areas, as well as zones for children, will be set up on the street to host visitors.
It should be mentioned that movement of vehicles will be restricted in the capital during the pre-preparation period for the ceremonial events dedicated to the Independence Day and on May 26. From today, 00:00, traffic will be completely restricted on Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue and First Republic Square.
Also, traffic movement will be restricted on all streets intersecting with Rustaveli Avenue. Vehicles will be able to move through Baratashvili and Tabukashvili streets, in the direction of Merab Kostava and Sanapiro streets.
