The Mayor of Tbilisi asserted that the opposition’s characterisation of the proposed legislation, inspired by the US Foreign Agents Registration Act [FARA], as a Russian law was not their own message but a directive from external forces.

“They [opposition] will not succeed because we have clearly stated that we are copying a law that has been in effect in the United States for years. Transparency is fundamentally important.

Funding of various organizations has been happening in a completely opaque manner. Attempts to overthrow Government were financed from abroad, polarization was funded and continues to be funded externally, even societal divisions were financed from outside. We must put an end to this. Public has the right to know everything, everything must be transparent”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
