The incident that occurred after the match may lead to sanctions from UEFA, ultimately harming our national team and Georgian football fans. Such a statement made today Levan Kobiashvili, President of the Georgian Football Federation [GFF].
“I want to express my gratitude to our national team’s loyal fans, who created an exceptional atmosphere at Dinamo Arena throughout the match.
Your tremendous support was genuinely felt in the stadium and, as always, provided the team with significant motivation. For this, I want to thank you once again.
However, I must address the incident that took place after the match, when a small group of spectators invaded the pitch, leading to unpleasant events both on the field and near the visiting team’s section. Such behaviour toward the visiting team’s supporters is unacceptable. Because of this entirely unacceptable action, we insulted the visiting team’s fans and also prevented our national team from celebrating the victory with their loyal supporters.
Such conduct damages football and tarnishes our country’s international image. This incident could lead to sanctions from UEFA, ultimately harming our national team and Georgian football fans.
I extend my appreciation to the visiting team and their supporters for fostering a friendly environment in both Tbilisi and Yerevan.
I want to thank the President of the Armenian Football Federation and our colleagues for their exceptional hosting. The close relationship between our two countries in the realm of sports is further underscored by Georgia and Armenia’s joint bid to host one of the most prestigious championships. Hope, both Georgia and Armenia will successfully host the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2029.
Football unites us and paves the way for success. Special thanks go to every member of our national football team, the entire squad, and the coaching staff for their remarkable dedication and winning mentality in both playoff matches”, - said Levan Kobiashvili.
