Mikheil Kavelashvili rejected former president’s constitutional lawsuit to repeal the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, withdrew the constitutional complaint filed by the former president, Salome Zourabichvili, seeking the annulment of the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence.

“The law is based on transparency and accountability, which contributes to the protection of the most important principle of Georgian statehood – the national sovereignty of the state and the stable development of the country.

The law aims to inform the public about the sources of funding for civil society organizations, which it claims pursue the interests of foreign powers”, - reads the statement of the Presidential Administration.

Salome Zourabichvili had appealed to the Georgian Constitutional Court on July 15, 2024 to repeal the Law on Transparency, arguing that it violated Article 78 of the Georgian Constitution.
