Maka Botchorishvili meets with the President of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly

As part of her visit to the United Nations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, met with the President of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang.

During the meeting, the parties discussed Georgia’s successful engagement in the activities of the United Nations and its institutions.

Maka Botchorishvili reaffirmed Georgia’s support for the implementation of the organization’s priorities, which include upholding the values and principles of the UN Charter, ensuring peace, promoting well-being, and fostering sustainable development.

The meeting further reiterated Georgia’s support for the steps taken by the organization to promote gender equality and empower women’s rights. The parties also addressed the security situation in the South Caucasus region.

The discussion touched on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. Maka Botchorishvili expressed gratitude to the President of the General Assembly for his firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of supporting the resolution on the “Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia”, presented at the General Assembly.

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Foreign Affairs is currently in New York, where she is participating in the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Maka Botchorishvili will also address the assembly during the event.
