
Maia Bitadze, the Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee and a member of the Parliamentary Delegation to OSCE PA, participates in the OSCE PA Winter Session.
She addressed the Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology & Environment concerning the eco-migration challenges.
In addressing the aforementioned challenges, she emphasized the paramount importance of collaborative and coordinated efforts, as well as the preeminent role of OSCE member states in the realm of peace and security.
"Over the past period, the frequency and severity of climate-related catastrophes in Georgia, such as floods, droughts, and forest fires, have significantly increased by more than 30%. Given this alarming trend, it is imperative that the vulnerability of the agricultural sector, which constitutes the primary economic dependency of the majority of the Georgian population, is addressed urgently.
Georgia is taking substantial measures to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts. In this context, we strongly emphasize the significance of collaborating closely with international partners in developing green infrastructure and early warning systems", - she stated.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Maia Bitadze emphasized Georgia`s unwavering commitment to actively collaborating with its European partners to facilitate peace, stability, and a secure environment within the region.
The Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Nikoloz Samkharadze, serves the official visit to Vienna, Austria.
The Delegation is composed of Maia Bitadze, the Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, and Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the EU Integration Committee.
