
A 20-member team of injured Georgian servicemembers returned from the Invictus Games, an international multi-sport event for wounded and injured military personnel, with 3 [2 gold, 1 silver] medals under their belt.
The team was welcomed back by Irakli Chikovani, Minister of Defence, his Deputy Paata Patiashvili, and Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, Chief of the country’s Defence Forces.
Held in Canada, the event involved competition in sitting volleyball, para-basketball, indoor rowing, biathlon, wheelchair curling, and skiing, with the tournament designed for both serving and retired members.
It featured around 550 competitors from up to 25 countries participating in adaptive sports. Georgian servicemembers have been participating in the Games since its establishment in 2014, have earned top-level medals at different times.
