We urge the Georgian government to heed warnings that this bill does not comply with EU norms and values - US Department of State

We urge the Government of Georgia to heed the warnings that this draft law does not comply with the norms and values of the European Union. Such a statement made the Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State, while talking about the draft law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”.

“We remain deeply concerned that this draft law, if it enters into force, may stigmatize civil society organizations that work to improve the lives of ordinary citizens of Georgia. It can also stigmatize media organizations operating in Georgia to provide information to Georgian citizens.

We think that civil society, journalism, media organizations are the cornerstones of any democratic society, we call on the Georgian government to pay attention to the warnings that this draft law does not comply with the norms and values of the European Union, and, of course, will have a negative impact on Georgia’s progress on the road to the European Union”, - said Vedant Patel.
