The session of Tbilisi’s government was dedicated to the historic victory. The Mayor once again congratulated all of Georgia for the football team’s participation in the European Championship.

“Yesterday, the Georgian national team had an important match with the Greece national team. In this tense final match, we won, which, to put it mildly, united the whole country. Georgia is already at the European Championship. The tense, game of March 26, 2024, that gave us tears of joy will be a great story for each of us to tell our grandchildren someday. I said yesterday, and I will say it again, that this date will go down in golden letters in our recent history. This is the day that Georgian fans have been waiting for several decades.

We have spent many tearful days and nights, but these tears were often related to failure and nihilism, while yesterday’s tears were of victory, pride and great joy. Of course, I want to once again congratulate all those people who got happy by this victory. This is not only the victory of our players, it is the victory of the country. For tomorrow, for our kids and future generations, it was the most important victory. Yesterday’s game showed once again something simple and obvious to all Georgians - strength lies in unity. The team and the fans together showed teamwork, unity and the brilliant result of this unity. Georgia won with unity and will win in the future with unity, united spirit, strength, mutual love and standing by each other’s side.

We achieved a brilliant result yesterday, and I want to thank our boys - each member of the Georgian national team exactly, for this joy, for this exemplary success, for the spark as a result of which the fans marched all over Tbilisi last night, befriended completely unknown people, lit up the whole country with hope, love and pride. Such victories have a greater resonance than just the joy of victory.

As you know, the Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili nominated the players of the Georgian national team for the Order of Honor, which I welcome with all my heart. Yesterday, our boys who we are proud of, were able to protect the honor and name of Georgia. They deserve support from the state. Once again, I congratulate the Georgian fans, with whom I shared the joy of victory yesterday. Football brought us all together last night and it was a very strong emotion.
