Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the President of the Federal Council of Swiss Confederation

The Speaker of Parliament held a meeting with the President of the Federal Council of Swiss Confederation, Eric Nussbaumer. The accentuation was made on the close and friendly relations between Georgia and Switzerland.

Shalva Papuashvili extended his gratitude to Switzerland for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and the merit of the country contributed to the reconciliation and trust-building between the occupation-divided population.

The parties overviewed close parliamentary ties between the two countries. The Speaker gave a positive assessment to the visit of the President of the Federal Council of Switzerland to Georgia in 2022 underlining that the counter visit to Switzerland will enrich the Georgia-Switzerland relations with a positive spark.

The discourse included the successful cooperation in healthcare, vocational education, agriculture, trade and other spheres.

“The credit for standing by Switzerland lies in the fact that, amid the challenging situation and regional difficulties, Georgia can uphold stability and peace by leveraging such instruments. The focus was on parliamentary relations. My colleague visited Georgia two years ago; he was not the parliamentary chairman at the time but was part of the delegation. We recalled his visit to Tbilisi and discussed inter-parliamentary cooperation, particularly concerning the involvement of young people in parliamentary activities. Switzerland has valuable experience in this regard, and we look forward to learning from it”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.

The meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of the Speaker and his accompanying Parliamentary Delegation to the Swiss Confederation.

The Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Speaker Papuashvili, is composed of: the Vice-Speaker, Giorgi Kakhiani; the Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, Anri Okhanashvili; the Chair of the Health Care and Social Issues Committee, Zaza Lominadze; and MP Ketevan Charkviani.
