Admission of Adeishvili at the premises of the EU and Germany undermines the perception that European bureaucracy remains loyal to the ideals of a legal statehood - Government of Georgia

The Government of Georgia is raising concerns about the visits and meetings held within the European Union and Federal Republic of Germany, which involved Zurab Adeishvili as a member of the Ukrainian delegation, who is declared as a criminal offender and is wanted by the Georgian judiciary, reads the statement of the Government of Georgia.

Zurab Adeishvili was one of the masterminds behind the repressive regime, which was continuously trampling underfoot the democratic and legal statehood principles, along with basic human rights and freedoms, as well as independence of Georgian judiciary. Lives, health and wellbeing of a lot of people were sacrificed by the referred regime.

He is convicted of the illegal foreclosure of a wine factory, seizure of TV Company Iberia, kidnapping and inflicting brutal violence against Koba Davitashvili, torture of prisoners, bankruptcy of the Cartu Bank, and he is accused of the covering up the raids and seizure of TV Company Imedi, violence demonstrated on 7th November 2007 and murder of Buta Robakidze.

Considering all the aforesaid, the admission of Zurab Adeishvili at the premises of the European Union and Federal Republic of Germany undermines the perception that European bureaucracy remains loyal to the ideals of a legal statehood.

Hence, the said occurrence directly contradicts to the spirit of the very first priority listed among the 9 recommendations extended by the European Union for Georgia, which envisages a prevention of anti-European attitudes being augmented in Georgia.

Similarly, unrestricted mobility of other offenders and fugitives within the territory of the European Union fuels anti-European sentiments, as there is a grounded assumption towards some that they are still engaged in the gravest criminal activities committed against the citizens of EU Member States”, - reads the statement.

Georgia is a loyal partner with a clear expectation that European structures and bureaucracy will continue expressing greater consideration and commitment towards the values that the European Union was founded with after World War II”.
