Zhiuli Shartava is the symbol of the motherland’s unity and fight for freedom, said the Minister of Defence on the occasion of the National Hero’s birth date.

“He always sought the restoration of trust between Georgians and Abkhazians and sacrificed his life for the protection of his country and people.

Our motherland will reunite. The Government’s main aim is to build a strong state together with the Abkhaz brothers. The resilience of our heroes, among them Zhiuli Shartava, reminds us of this goal every day”, - said Irakli Chikovani.

​Zhiuli Shartava was a Georgian politician who served as the Government Head of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and was killed by Abkhaz militants in 1993. He was awarded the title of the National Hero of Georgia in 2004.
