Processes developed around the Parliament of this convocation and with its participation were loaded with historical events, in recent years, Georgia and its government had to cope with epochal challenges. Such a statement the Chairman of the Parliament made at the plenary session, while presenting the activity report 2023.

Shalva papuashvili highlighted 3 major threats - the COVID-19, Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and the radicalization of the opposition, which he identified as the 3rd significant danger to Georgia.

“The Government had to manage the once-in-a-century world pandemic while balancing between preserving lives and safeguarding the economy. The situation escalated when Russia launched aggression against Ukraine, posing a historical danger to Georgia”, - he added.

Papuashvili criticized the opposition’s radicalization, citing instances during the 2020 and 2022 elections “when opposition groups attempted undemocratic means to seize power”.

“The authorities of Georgia successfully eliminated all three significant threats - pandemic, war, and radicalism. Remarkably, these formidable challenges were addressed in a manner that safeguarded our democratic achievements, ensuring that not a single gain was lost.

We have upheld peace and security, extended assistance to our brotherly Ukrainian people, prioritized the health and well-being of our population and achieved historic success in Georgia’s path towards European integration.

This stands as a monumental achievement and legacy, a testament to our government’s unwavering commitment to the best interests of our people.

These accomplishments have garnered unprecedented support from the population as we approach the upcoming elections”, - said Shalva Papuashvili.
