Georgia’s progress in building up its civil protection capabilities is impressive - Janez Lenarčič

Georgia’s participation in the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism was reviewed by Georgian Prime Minister and the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, in a meeting held in Brussels.

Janez Lenarčič welcomed the steps taken by Georgia to join the European Commission’s initiative, which coordinates the response to natural and man-made disasters at the EU level, and handed over a guide for the membership of the Mechanism, its supporting instruments and stages of the accession process.

The reforms carried out by the Georgian Government in efforts to join the EU, as well as the country’s progress in this regard, were also discussed by the sides.

Irakli Kobakhidze highlighted the “important steps” taken by the Georgian authorities to bring the country closer to Europe, both at the legislative and institutional levels, adding the Government was “actively working” to achieve further progress on the EU integration path.

In his turn, the European Commissioner affirmed his support to the Prime Minister for the country’s European aspirations.
