Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to work for the main priority of the country: strengthening of sovereignty and peaceful restoration of territorial integrity - Darchiashvili

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia continues to work for the main priority of the country: the strengthening of sovereignty and peaceful restoration of territorial integrity, said the candidate for the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, at the Committee meeting.

“Today, the world faces a complex geopolitical environment, which naturally requires well-thought-out, consistent steps in the direction of foreign policy, which serve the sustainable and stable development of our country, the peaceful settlement of the conflict, the provision of foreign policy priorities defined by the Constitution of Georgia, and the presentation of Georgia’s regional and international role.

Despite the most difficult challenges of the recent period, our Government was able to successfully protect the interests of our country, avoid threats, and moreover, achieve tangible success on the foreign front in many directions.

As a result of successive Government policy reforms, in 2023, we achieved an unprecedented result in the European integration of our country - today Georgia is a candidate country for EU membership.

Thus, we moved to a qualitatively higher level of relations with the EU, which represented a great and well-deserved victory for our country. The government is ready and mobilized to do more to make more progress on the road to EU membership.

Our next goal is, of course, to start accession negotiations. To fulfill this most important goal, the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be directed towards achieving further progress on the path to joining the EU and using the opportunities received as a candidate”, - said Ilia Darchiashvili.
